All VSU Offices Reopen Wednesday, Classes Resume Thursday, Sept. 7

Following unprecented damage from Hurricane Idalia, VSU is slated to resume classes on Thursday, September 7.

VALDOSTA -- Due to unforeseen challenges after power and network services were restored, VSU offices will reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 6., but classes won’t resume until Thursday, Sept. 7. All staff should report to work on Wednesday. Those with offices in the following buildings should work with their supervisor to determine the best working arrangement, which may include remote work:

  • HSBA Building
  • Converse Hall
  • Ashley Hall
  • Mass Media Building

Please see below for some other important updates.

Faculty: We are asking all faculty to please remain flexible with assignments and deadlines for students and to move classes online when possible.

Campus Buildings: All campus buildings, other than the four mentioned above, will be back open at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday).

Dining: All dining operations on campus will resume normal hours tomorrow morning, including Palms.

Traveling Around Campus and Parking: Shuttle buses will not run tomorrow to North Campus since classes are not in session. That service begins on Thursday. On Main Campus, shuttles will run to and from Centennial only. All pathways around main campus have been cleared except for the southwest corner by the Fine Arts Building. The only update from yesterday’s complete parking and transportation communication is that Brookwood is now open.

Student Events: “Welcome Back Blazers” is being held tomorrow (Wednesday) on Converse Square from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. All students are invited to stop by and get some popcorn, a snow cone, and a high five. There will also be music, counseling center resources, and a Blazer Pantry pop-up. Also, tomorrow at 6 p.m. at The Fieldhouse, our soccer team will host Embry-Riddle in their home opener. Admission is free for everyone. And soccer intramurals resume tomorrow on the field behind Centennial with games at 7, 8, and 9 p.m.
