Social Issues in Film Series Presents “Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things” March 20
Valdosta State University’s 2016-2017 Social Issues in Film Series will present “Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things” at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20, in Nevins Hall Room 1061. |
“Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things” stars Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus. At age 30, they both walked away from their corporate careers to “live a more meaningful life with less.”
“I think of minimalism as sort of the counter-narrative to the narrative that suggests consuming more stuff will make you happier in some hypothetical future,” Millburn said in an interview with Forbes Magazine. “For me, minimalism has been a way to regain control. We retain that control by continuing to be deliberate. Minimalism was a tool that allowed me to live more deliberately.”
The film gives an inside look at the lives of minimalists — families, entrepreneurs, architects, artists, journalists, scientists, and even a former Wall Street broker.
“Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things” is presented by Catalyst Films and directed by Matt D’Avella. The film premiered in theaters in 2016 and was the year’s top-grossing independent documentary.
