Matthew F. Brady

VALDOSTA — Matthew F. Brady of Cooper City, Florida, is the recipient of the Fall 2016 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration at Valdosta State University.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU’s five colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, College of the Arts, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services.

VSU will celebrate its 222nd commencement on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10.

Brady will serve as the official banner carrier for the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration during the undergraduate commencement ceremony at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, on the VSU Front Lawn. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in healthcare administration.

“Starting college at the age of 27, I was simply attempting to forge a path I had long avoided,” he shared. “Now, four years later, I have the pleasure of leading some of the most outstanding people I have ever met towards our much-anticipated commencement ceremony. Semester by semester, through hard work and perseverance, I have achieved what I consider to be the greatest accomplishment of my life. This is an indescribable honor, and I can never thank the university staff, my fellow students, friends, and family enough for making this possible and supporting me on this adventure. I have no doubt that our graduating class will go on to do incredible things and make our alma mater proud.”

Brady transferred to VSU from Georgia Military College, where he was consistently honored as a member of the President’s List. During his time as a student at VSU, he regularly achieved Dean’s List standing, earned scholarship support from the VSU Foundation Inc., and served as a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Business Student Advisory Council, where he held the position of vice president. He is the son of Michael and Dorothy Brady.

“After graduation, I will be pursuing an internship to gain practical knowledge in my field of study,” he said. “Once I've acquired the necessary experience, I plan on either pursuing a graduate degree or an assistant administrative position within a large healthcare system. Ideally, I see myself as a member of senior administration within a hospital or extended care facility within the next five years. My highest aspiration is to eventually become a head director or chief executive officer, utilizing my hard work and talent to both foster financial success and improve patient outcomes.”
