Robots, Animations, and More Showcased in Computing Adventures @ VSU

VALDOSTA – The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Valdosta State University will host its seventh annual Computing Adventures @ VSU computer science camp for rising fifth through seventh grade students June 20-24, in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Center for Applied Creativity and Innovation in Martin Hall. The weeklong camp is designed to introduce students to computer science and allow them to explore advancements in technology.

From 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., participants will “learn about computing and robotics in a fun and engaging setting,” said Dr. Krishnendu Roy, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and coordinator of the camp. “They will build and program robots to do cool things, like dance and navigate a maze. They will also program their own digital stories, animations, and games. We hope this will spark their interest in critical thinking and computing, something that will help the students in all subjects that they will study in middle and high school and beyond.”

General admission is $225, and includes lunch, snacks, and a camp T-shirt. Seating is limited to 20 participants and early registration is encouraged. Need based scholarships are available. Visit http://cscamp.valdosta.edu to register or learn more about Computing Adventures @ VSU.
