VALDOSTA – Hannah Pittman is Valdosta State University’s 2016 Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society Leonard Senior Book Award recipient.

“I feel incredibly honored to be picked from amongst my amazing peers for such a prestigious award,” said the daughter of Melissa and Jerry Pittman II of Statenville.

Named for the late Maria Leonard who founded the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for First-Year Students in 1924, the Senior Book Award is presented to a senior who is an active member of Alpha Lambda Delta and has the highest cumulative grade point average in their graduating class.

As a student at VSU, Pittman served as a biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology tutor in the Student Success Center for three years.

A regular on the Dean’s List, she also received the Department of Biology’s 2016 Annual Senior Award.

Pittman graduated from VSU on May 7 with a Bachelor of Science in biology.

She is currently in the process of applying to medical school.

“I’ve wanted to be a practicing physician since middle school and have stuck with that dream throughout the rest of my academics,” she said. “I’m very interested in pursuing [a career in] general surgery or transplant surgery.”
