VSU Presents Vagina Monologues Feb. 19-21

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program will present The Vagina Monologues Feb. 19-21 in Jerry and Kay Jennett Lecture Hall Room 2211.

Seating will open at 6 p.m. each night; performances will begin at 7 p.m. General admission to the event costs $10. VSU students will be admitted for a reduced price of $5 but must show a valid student identification card. Tickets may be purchased in Carswell Hall, located on North Oak Street across from Palms Dining.

The Vagina Monologues, an award-winning play written by Eve Ensler, is a series of monologues that highlight current issues facing women and is based on the author’s interviews with over 200 women regarding their experiences with sexuality. Proceeds from the event are used to fund the education, empowerment, and safety of women.

“I hope that the audience gains a better understanding of women’s sexuality and the sexual violence that women and girls endure on a daily basis,” said Dr. Tracy Woodard, Women’s and Gender Studies Program director. “The play describes the diversity of women’s sexual experience and is geared toward both women and men. Everyone can benefit from seeing this informative play.”

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program is committed to providing feminist scholarship across disciplines and promoting gender equity and respect.
