Hue Jeong Jang Performs Feb. 9 on Whitehead Auditorium Stage

VALDOSTA — Hue Jeong Jang, pianist, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, in Valdosta State University’s Whitehead Auditorium. The recital is free of charge and open to the public.

An assistant professor of piano, Jang joined the VSU Department of Music faculty at the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year. She previously served as a member of the music faculty at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., and the Piano Laboratory Program at the University of Illinois School of Music at Urbana-Champaign.

Jang’s performances include appearances at the 2002 International Piano Summer Festival at the State University of New York in New Paltz, N.Y.; the 2003 Summer Opera Workshop in Poggio Renatico, Italy; the 2005 Beethoven Piano Sonata Series at DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.; the 2006 International Piano Summer Festival in Prague, Czech Republic; and the 2013 International Keyboard Institute and Festival at Mannes College in New York, N.Y. As a first prize recipient of the American Protégé International Competition, she performed at New York City’s Weill Recital Hall in 2011. She also presented a solo debut recital at the prestigious Seoul Arts Center in South Korea in 2013.

Jang holds a Bachelor of Music from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Ill., a Master of Music and Post-Master Performance Certificate in piano performance from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill., and a Master of Music in piano pedagogy and Doctor of Musical Arts in piano from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She served as a graduate accompanying assistant at the University of Illinois during her doctoral residency and presented her doctoral thesis research on the piano music of Sukhi Kang and Chul-Ik Hwang at the annual Illinois State Music Teachers Association conference.

A member of the Music Teachers National Association, Jang is a dedicated teacher who regularly adjudicates scholarship auditions and competitions and gives lectures on various topics at such events as the annual Piano Duet Festival at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., and the summer piano camps at the University of Illinois. She recently contributed to the Korean translation of the fifth edition of the widely used Piano Repertoire Guide: Intermediate and Advanced Literature by Cathy Albergo and Reid Alexander for Se-Kwang Music Publishing Co. in Seoul, South Korea. Her collaborative work includes chamber music as well as instrumental and vocal accompaniments.

Monday’s performance features music composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Maurice Ravel.
