VALDOSTA—The Georgia Wine and Spirits Wholesalers selected senior communication disorders major Melanie Alyse Morris as the 2014 scholarship award winner.

The Warner Robins native is an inductee of the National Society of Leadership and Success, a nominee and presenter at VSU’s Undergraduate Research Symposium, and selected as a research assistant for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

After completing graduate school, Morris wants to become a medically based speech-language pathologist.

“I want to work with individuals, especially those in geriatric care, who have neurological deficits due to strokes, traumatic brain injuries, head injuries, or other determined cause,” said Morris. “I want to be part of the team that rehabilitates these individuals to optimal functioning in the face of these deficits.”

Morris is one of 11 recipients selected this year to receive a scholarship from the Georgia Wine and Spirits Wholesalers. Since the first scholarship in 1965, the Georgia Wine and Spirits Wholesalers foundation has awarded 1,062 scholarships with a total contribution of $1,367,072.

Morris is the daughter of Richard and Renee Morris of Warner Robins, Ga.
