HR Minor Curriculum Recognized by SHRM for Alignment with Guidelines

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University’s business management major and human resource minor have been evaluated the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is determined to align with the association’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.

“Management department faculty at Valdosta State University examined the SHRM Curriculum guidelines to ensure that our graduates are prepared for a career in HR,” said Dr. Mel Schnake, professor of management. “The Langdale College of Business Administration’s AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation along with the HR program’s alignment with SHRM guidelines ensures that our HR graduates are ready for professional careers in HR and can immediately begin making contributions to their employers.”

Throughout the world, 349 programs in 262 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The human resource curriculum guidebook and templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum human resource content areas that should be studied by students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines, created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010 and 2013, are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define human resource education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

SHRM is the world’s largest human resource membership organization devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 275,000 members in over 160 countries, the society is the leading provider of resources to serve the needs of human professionals and advance the professional practice of human resource management. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.
