VSU Hosts 16th Annual Juried Student Art Competition March 24-April 11

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University Department of Art will award $500 in prize money during the opening reception of the 16th Annual All-Media Juried VSU Student Art Competition at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24.

Julie Bowland, VSU Fine Arts Gallery director, noted that 80 students entered 214 pieces of artwork in this year’s competition.

Judge Janis Brothers, professor of art at Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Fla., selected 65 works created by 47 students to be featured in the exhibit, which runs through April 11.

The All-Media Juried VSU Student Art Competition is open to all registered Valdosta State students, regardless of their major. Students are allowed to enter a maximum of four pieces of original two-dimensional and three-dimensional work, including graphic design, illustration, interior design, animation, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, painting, aqueous media, jewelry, photography, ceramics, small metals, and sculpture.

The VSU Fine Arts Gallery is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building, at the intersection of Brookwood Drive and Oak Street. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.

The 16th Annual All-Media Juried VSU Student Art Competition is sponsored by Don Mirate of Mirate Eye Center.
