VSU Hosts Screening of Will Dove’s ‘No Soliciting’
VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Mass Media Program will host a screening of “No Soliciting” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the University Center Theater. Will Dove, the film’s writer and director, will attend.
Admission is free of charge and open to the public.
“No Soliciting” is a comedy/drama that tells the story of Dan Wood, a man who loses his job, catches his girlfriend cheating on him, and finds himself back at home living with his mother. In his darkest hour, he turns to door-to-door sales and discovers that every door has a potential answer. All he has to do is just keep knocking.
Released on Jan. 3, 2013, “No Soliciting” is Dove’s first feature-length movie. It was presented Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Acting Ensemble awards at the 2013 Gwinnett Center International Film Festival.
A Georgia State University graduate who calls Metro Atlanta home, Dove wrote and directed the film and also stars in it alongside Ryan Lewis, Grant McGowen, Rahmell Peebles, Bobby Elzey, and Katie Graham.
Dove will be present for the special VSU screening, and he will share his experience as a Georgia-based independent filmmaker and answer questions from the audience during the event.
The filmmaker and screening will be recorded for future broadcast on VOD Indie, a television program produced by VSU students in the MDIA 4962: Video Workshop course taught by Jason E. Brown, an assistant professor in the Mass Media Program, Department of Communication Arts.
VOD Indie features independent filmmakers, trailers from their films, as well as information about the growing outlets for video on demand services. It airs at 11 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday on Mediacom Channel 20.
