VSU Hosts Quarterly Staff Council Meeting

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University will host the University System of Georgia Staff Council (USGSC) quarterly meeting Thursday, July 18 in the Student Union.

Since 1994, the university system’s staff council has worked to advance its mission of promoting and fostering the welfare of system staff through combined creativity of staff representatives from system institutions. The quarterly meeting acknowledges staff councils from institutions throughout the university system and serves as a time to address current business, elect new officers and explore areas of improvement. Council members will also get updates about employee benefits to take back to their respective institutions.

Albany State University Human Resource Director Steve Grant will serve as keynote speaker for the quarterly meeting. He will deliver an address titled “Starship” after lunch. Grant’s presentation will be followed by one from Marion Fedrick, the university system’s vice chancellor for human resources.

“Valdosta State University is honored and welcomes those who will be speaking at the USGSC quarterly meeting,” said Yvonne Landers, USGSC treasurer and at-large member of VSU’s Council on Staff Affairs.

The USGSC contributes to the university system’s governance by consulting with and making recommendations to the chancellor or designees concerning policies and procedures that affect staff. The USGSC provides and oversees guidelines to institutions about formulating and maintaining staff representative bodies. These bodies address local issues and forward system-wide concerns to the USGSC. The USGSC maintains a system-wide communications network to provide for efficient transmission of relevant information to system staff.

The USGSC meets quarterly and annual meeting is a statewide staff conference, which is open to all staff of the university system. This year’s annual meeting will be held in October at the University of North Georgia in Gainesville.
