VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Delta Chi fraternity and Chi Omega sorority hosted this year’s Josh Dykes Memorial Softball Tournament at Freedom Park with a little girl in mind. They raised over $3,000 for 5-year-old Addison Seacrist to help offset various costs associated with her fight against cancer.
Seacrist was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia with positive Philadelphia chromosome on Aug. 21, 2012. Since then, she has been treated at Nemours Clinic and Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Her treatment protocol will last for a minimum of two years.
The tournament was run by Zach Dykes with the Delta Chi fraternity and Chi Omega sorority members staffing the event. Seacrist and her twin sister, Emma, celebrated their 5th birthdays that weekend, and Dykes brought a birthday cake to celebrate. The girls were delighted when the Delta Chi fraternity members then came and sang Happy Birthday to them.
“As a VSU alumnus, I believe these are the types of activities that show the value of the education and experiences provided by the university,” said Jason Seacrist, Addison’s father.”
