Pianist Larry Scully Presents Masterworks from Vienna Feb. 28 at VSU
VALDOSTA — Dr. Larry Scully will perform Masterworks from Vienna at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, in Valdosta State University’s Whitehead Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public and will feature music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Peter Schubert, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
A professor in the Department of Music, Scully joined the VSU faculty in 1987. This will be his 26th annual faculty recital. He teaches piano and related courses at the university.
“I enjoy working with children and young adults,” he said. “Watching them progress and develop is part of the game.”
Scully began playing the accordion at the age of 7 and the piano at 19. He studied at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance. He was principal pianist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra for 18 years and made his New York Lincoln Center debut in 1980 and his European debut in Munich, Germany in 1984.
Whitehead Auditorium is located on the first floor of VSU Fine Arts Building, at the intersection of Brookwood Drive and Oak Street.
