Valdosta Symphony Guild Presents Annual Tunes for Tots Event

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta Symphony Guild will present the annual Tunes for Tots event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 19, in Whitehead Auditorium, located on the first floor of the Valdosta State University Fine Arts Building.

There will be a brief presentation in Whitehead Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., intended to introduce the audience to the sounds of the orchestra. Valdosta Symphony Orchestra members will each offer an explanation and demonstration of their musical instrument, and the South Georgia String Project will perform.

From 10:45 a.m. to noon, there will be an interactive instrument petting zoo in the Fine Arts Building. Children will have an opportunity to try each instrument of the orchestra with the help of professional musicians.

“This event is a wonderful place to introduce your children to the world of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, as well as an opportunity to learn more about musical instruments from the musicians themselves,” said Amy Neal, co-chair of the Symphony Guild's Tunes for Tots committee. “I hope we are inspiring future musicians and creating music lovers for the next generation. I also hope at least one child goes home begging for music lessons or dreaming of playing in a symphony one day.”

Children of all ages are invited to attend, and admission is free. No ticket or reservation is required. Free juice and cookies will be provided, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Fine Arts Building is located at the corner of North Oak Street and Brookwood Drive. Free parking is available in the Oak Street Parking Deck.
