VSU’s Dance Marathon’s Blazer-A-Thon a Success

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University’s Dance Marathon hosted a successful Blazer-A-Thon for the Children’s Miracle Network from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Student Union Ballrooms A, B and C.

Blazer-a-thon is an event that raises money for the “Miracle Families” that have had kids helped by Shands Hospital for Children located in Gainesville, Fla. The Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding children’s hospitals across the nation.

This year’s Blazer-a-thon featured games, prizes and other organizations raising money and awareness for Shands Hospital.

Registered organizations participated as teams, stood on their feet for 12 hours and vowed to raise $98 for Shands Hospital. This year $23,329.04 was raised, which was a record breaking number. VSU has not reached over $21,000 since 2003.

One hundred percent of the proceeds raised throughout the year and at Blazer-A-Thon are donated directly to Shands Hospital for Children and benefit the pediatric patients from Georgia.

Dance Marathon has been a part of CMN since 1991 and a part of VSU since 2001. Today, more than 150 U.S. colleges and universities has raised over $50 million for CMN with 100 percent of those proceeds going directly to local CMN hospitals. Students interested in participating in future events can visit Dance Marathon’s registration site at dmvsu.kintera.org. This site also enables people to make donations and business to sponsor.
