VSU Pianists Present Recital of American Piano Music

VALDOSTA — Dr. Lyle Indergaard will present an evening of 20th century American piano music at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, in Whitehead Auditorium. Admission is free of charge. The public is encouraged to attend.

The Valdosta State University professor of piano and chairman of the Department of Music’s Piano Area noted, “This recital will be an entertaining and informative event that will feature many different American composers and musical styles.”

Throughout the evening music lovers will be treated to the sounds of Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Amy Beach, Charles Ives, Henry Cowell, George Gershwin, Morton Gould, Aaron Copeland, Emma Lou Diemer, Samuel Barber, Frederic Rzewski, John Adams, and George Crumb. Indergaard will provide commentary on the composers and the music, and he will demonstrate with musical examples.

“I hope the lecture-recital format will provide greater insight and enjoyment of the music for the audience,” he said.

Performers include some of Indergaard’s present and former students: Jodie Morris, Dillan Parker, Nathaniel Jones, Vicorie Brown, De’Arius Howell, Tyler Walker, Sarah Carter-Sweatte, Katie Aufenthie, Matthew Mainella, Sara Seligosky, and Valerie Holton.

Whitehead Auditorium is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building, at the intersection of Oak Street and Brookwood Drive.
