Herb Fiester Joins College of Education Faculty

VALDOSTA — Dr. Herbert R. Fiester recently joined the Valdosta State University family as an assistant professor in the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum, Leadership, and Technology.

“I want to teach at VSU because of the emphasis on providing a quality education to our students, the excellent work environment, and the high caliber of people in the Valdosta community,” he said.

During the fall semester, Fiester is teaching ITED 8970: Action Research Methods and Planning, CIED 9100: Curriculum Design, Implementation, and Evaluation, and RSCH 9870: Dissertation Topic Conceptualization. His areas of professional research include knowledge acquisition, heuristics, integration of technology into the teaching and learning process, and adult education.

Before accepting a position with VSU, Fiester worked in corporate environments leading learning and performance improvement initiatives. Prior to his business career, he served as coordinator and associate instructor of Indiana University’s School of Education’s Teacher Education Laboratory and as a graduate faculty member with Indiana Wesleyan University’s Master of Education program. He also taught English at Reitz High School in Evansville, Ind., and at nearby Central High School. He is a native of Princeton, Ind.

Fiester earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Indiana State University, a Bachelor of Science in English from the University of Southern Indiana, a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University, a Master of Science in instructional systems technology from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in instructional systems technology from Indiana University. He recently completed a number of continuing education courses and has written roughly half a dozen articles for professional publications. He is affiliated with the International Society for Performance Development, American Society for Training and Development, Phi Delta Kappa, and Association for Educational Communications and Technology.
