Danielle Alsandor Joins College of Education Faculty
VALDOSTA — Dr. Danielle J. Alsandor recently joined the faculty of the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education. A native of Opelousas, La., she is an assistant professor for the Department of Curriculum, Leadership, and Technology’s Higher Education Leadership Program.
During the fall semester, Alsandor is teaching LEAD 7890: Technology in Student Affairs, LEAD 7840: History and Philosophy of Higher Education, and SCHC 7870: Student Personnel Services. Her areas of professional research include college retention and completion among students from low-income households and from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds.
“During my on-campus interview at VSU, I was impressed with the communality of my department’s faculty and their commitment to quality graduate education,” she said. “The program and department value a combination of theory and practice to best prepare our students for careers in higher education. I was pleased to join the VSU faculty to teach students as they work to enhance their knowledge of and experience in higher education. Lastly, my research on college completion blends well with my department and aligns with the state’s Complete College Georgia initiative.”
Alsandor earned a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She then entered the University of Texas at Austin, where she completed both a Master of Education in college student personnel administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration. During the years she was affiliated with the university, she held a number of positions, the most recent being academic coordinator for the Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program and research coordinator for the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence, Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
A regular presenter and published researcher, she is a member of the American College Personnel Association, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, Sisters of the Academy, American Education Research Association, and Association for the Study of Higher Education.
