Chemists Celebrate National Chemistry Week 2012 with Illustrated Poem Contest

VALDOSTA – The Southwest Georgia Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is sponsoring an illustrated poem contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to celebrate National Chemistry Week. The contest is one of the many ACS educational outreach activities.

The theme of the contest is “Nanotechnology: The Smallest Big Idea in Science.” The purpose of the contest is to have teachers and students explore the nanoscience related to the environment, energy, materials and health. Students will then present their ideas with an illustration and related poem.

There will be four judging categories, and a prize of $50 will be awarded to the student with the best entry in each category. The teachers of the winning students will receive a $50 gift card to the educational store of their choice. The contest deadline is Thursday, Oct. 18. All illustrated poems must have a completed contest entry form.

Poems must be no more than 40 words, and the winners of the Southwest Georgia illustrated poem contest will advance to the ACS National Illustrated Poem Contest.
