Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education Announces 'OperationZero Tolerance' for July 4th Travel Period

VALDOSTA -- VSU’s Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education wants to urge faculty, staff and students to make plans for a safe and responsible July 4th.

"For many, July 4th represents the best that summer has to offer: time with family and friends, cook-outs, going to the beach, fireworks and an appreciation for our hard-fought liberty," said Mark Williams, alcohol and other drugs coordinator. "Please don’t threaten your personal freedom by drinking and driving. The police will be conducting 'Operation Zero Tolerance: Over the limit, Under Arrest' and you won’t see ‘bombs bursting in air’ from inside of a jail cell. If you choose to make alcohol a part of your celebration, consider doing so in moderation, and if your plans involve travel, even locally, have a designated driver."

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has launched its annual summer campaign of 'Operation Zero Tolerance: Over the Limit, Under Arrest,' which will last through the July 4th travel period. Local law enforcement will be cracking down on impaired driving through increased sobriety checkpoints, roving and saturation patrols and other enforcement methods.
