VSU Participates in Light It Up Blue Campaign
VALDOSTA -- VSU will participate in the Autism Speaks “Light It
Up Blue” Campaign to raise awareness for autism. Plant Operations
will light up the fountains in front of West Hall, the Student
Union and the University Center with blue lights beginning Monday,
April 2.
To commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 and Autism
Awareness Month, Autism Speaks has challenged colleges,
universities and landmarks around the world to turn their lights
blue on April 2.
Iconic landmarks around the world such as the Empire State
Building, the Sydney Opera House and the NASA-International Space
Station will be lit up blue April 2. VSU will be joining other
universities such as Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern, Penn
State, UC Berkeley and Cornell University who have all lit up their
schools blue in the past.
According to Autism Speaks, Autism is a neurological disorder that
impairs an individual’s ability to communicate, form relationships
with others and relate to their surroundings. This growing global
public health crisis currently affects 1 in 110 children and 1 in
70 boys.
