Diversity Days at VSU

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University’s Office of Social Equity celebrates Diversity Days this month with a host of events that promote cross-cultural awareness and appreciation.

Activities held during the Diversity Days series will offer in-depth discussion and exploration of different cultures and communities and assist in creating an environment that is welcoming to and supportive of diversity.

“The series fosters an environment of inclusion for all members of the community,” said Dr. Maggie Viverette, director of Social Equity. “In addition, it communicates to the surrounding community, future students and future faculty and staff that acceptance andcommunity harmony are important issues to VSU.”

Viverette said that participants in Diversity Days can expect to enjoy lighthearted opportunities to share music and laughter, try new foods and participate in serious discussion of sensitive diversity issues such as learning how to become allies of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning) community.

“The overall purpose is to promote a campus environment where diversity is valued, appreciated and celebrated,” she said.
