VSU Chamber Singers to Embark on Spring Tour
VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State University Chamber Singers will
embark on its Spring Choir Tour, which includes performances in
Atlanta, Gainesville and Winston-Salem, N.C.
The tour includes several destinations like McEachern High School
in Cobb County, where the Chamber Singers will perform for more
than 800 choir students. The elite choir will also perform at First
Methodist Church in Gainesville and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in
Atlanta.
The highlight of the tour will be a performance at the American
Choral Directors Association Conference (ACDA) in Winston-Salem,
N.C. More than 100 choral groups throughout the southern division
auditioned to perform at the conference. The Chamber Singers were
among 18 choirs selected.
“This performance at ACDA will be a special performance, giving our
students a chance to perform for over 1,000 choral directors from
throughout the region,” said Dr. Paul Neal, director of choral
activities. “It is an honor to be chosen to perform, and we look
forward to singing for such a well-educated audience.”
ACDA is a non-profit music education organization that promotes
choral music performance, teaching, composition and research. The
organization holds state, division and national conferences that
feature concert performances and allow members to develop their
choral skills. The southern division of ACDA includes 11 states:
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West
Virginia.
The VSU Chamber Singers is an elite choral group at VSU that
performs the highest level of choral music. The ensemble tours
throughout Georgia annually and internationally every three years.
It is open to any VSU student through audition only.
