Award-Winning Poet Visits VSU
VALDOSTA -- The 2011-2012 Contemporary Writers Series continues
this week with award-winning poet Marianne Boruch, who will visit
campus Wednesday, Nov. 9.
During her visit, Boruch will speak to several students in creative
writing and literature classes about poetry, editing and writing
styles. She will also hold some workshops.
Boruch will share excerpts from her published work during a reading
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Theatre. This event
is free and open to the public.
Boruch is the author of six collections of poetry and two books of
essays on poetry. She is currently working on another poetry book
and a memoir.
Boruch’s accomplishments include two Pushcart Prizes, fellowships
from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the
Arts and residencies from the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio
Center and the MacDowell Colony. She has also served as
artist-in-residence at Isle Royale National Park. In addition,
Boruch has received several teaching awards from Purdue University,
where she developed the graduate writing program. She is a featured
author in the Georgia Poetry Circuit as well.
The Contemporary Writers Series, hosted by the Department of
English, showcases authors from various genres of literature. The
authors visit the university and share their techniques and
expertise with students who seek to improve their writing
skills.
Other writers included in the series are Lise Haines, Willis
Barnstone, Tony Barnstone and Todd Boss.
