Dr. Kathryn Norsworthy Lecture: 'Building Bridges and SwimmingUpstream: Chronicles of a Feminist and Justice Activist'
VALDOSTA -- As part of the VSU Women’s and Gender Studies
lecture series, Dr. Kathryn Norsworthy will speak from 6 - 8 p.m.
on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Jennett Lecture Hall Room 1111,
located in the Education Building.
During her lecture, “Building Bridges and Swimming Upstream:
Chronicles of a Feminist and Justice Activist,” Norsworthy will be
discussing such topics as feminists working together across regions
of the world, “coming out” when working in different countries,
what feminists from all parts of the world can teach each other and
the struggles and challenges in international feminist
activism.
“We are very honored to have Dr. Kathryn Norsworthy speak at our
campus,” Dr. Tracy Woodard Meyers, WGST program director, said.
“She is an inspiration and a true example of an activist feminist
scholar.”
For the last 14 years, Norsworthy has been collaborating with local
partners in Thailand, Cambodia, refugee communities of Burma in
exile and Tibetan communities. She has also been an ardent activist
for over a decade at the central Florida and state levels for full
civil rights for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender
communities.
