University Celebrates 2011 Homecoming Oct. 13-15

VALDOSTA--Valdosta State University will celebrate homecoming Oct. 13-15, with a number of activities for students, alumni and members of the community.

Thursday, Oct. 13

Community Pep Rally
VSU’s football head coach David Dean will address the crowd during the community pep rally at 7 p.m. in the P.E. Complex, on the corner of Sustella Avenue and Baytree. The evening activities will include performances by the VSU cheerleaders and Red Hots, special recognition of the senior members of the Blazer football team, and a lively and entertaining lip sync contest.

Friday, Oct. 14

Alumni Golf Tournament
Beautiful Stone Creek Golf Club is the site for this year’s annual golf tournament. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. for this four-person scramble, with a 9 a.m. shotgun shot. The tournament is open to all VSU alumni and friends. Participants will receive lunch and an assortment of prizes will be given away. Pre-registration is required, golfers must call the Office of Alumni Relations at (229) 333-5797 to register. Cost is $75 per person or $300 per team of four.

Homecoming Parade
Show your Blazer spirit and join your friends on Patterson Street for the parade, which begins at 6 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Drive, and will head south to conclude at Brookwood Drive.

Front Lawn Concert
The public is invited to attend the front lawn concert featuring the cover band A-Town/A-List from Atlanta at 8 p.m. Guests can come early and enjoy a variety of family activities. The event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, Oct. 15

Book Signing by Mrs. Joan Bailey
Joan Bailey, VSU’s former First Lady, will sign copies of her recently published book “A Walk with God.” Alumni and guests are invited to the book signing reception, hosted by Interim President Louis Levy, from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., on the second floor of the Student Union in the VSU Bookstore.

Alumni Tailgating
Tailgating activities for alumni will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Student Union courtyard, located at the intersection of Oak Street and Baytree Road. Blazer Walk
Show your school spirit by cheering on the Blazers as they enter Bazemore-Hyder Stadium prior to the game against West Alabama. Starting at 1:30 p.m., the football team and cheerleading squad will walk from Ann Street down Williams Street on their way to the stadium.

Blazers vs. West Alabama
Blazer football takes on West Alabama at 3 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. Tickets are available online at http://www.vstateblazers.com or call the ticket office at (229) 333-SEAT (7328).

Lady Blazers vs. Palm Beach Atlantic
Join the Lady Blazer soccer team as they take on the Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 p.m., at the Athletic Fields located on Mary Street. Tickets are available online at http://www.vstateblazers.com or call the ticket office at (229) 333-SEAT (7328).
