VSU Announces Certificate Program in Digital Photography

VALDOSTA -- For anyone who wishes to explore photography as a hobby or enhance his or her professional skills, Valdosta State University Continuing Education now offers a Digital Photography Certificate Program.

“We had such a great response to our digital photography classes last semester, we wanted to provide a wider variety of opportunities for people to enhance their photography skills,” said Sue Bailey, program coordinator.

This fall, students in the Digital Photography Certificate Program are taking such classes as Fundamentals of Digital Photography, Digital Photo Editing Basics, Introduction to Studio Photography, Introduction to Adobe Lightroom, Travel Photography for the Digital Photographer, Photographing Nature with Your Digital Camera, Photographing People with Your Digital Camera and Photoshop Elements 8 for the Digital Photographer.

To earn the Digital Photography Certificate, students must complete all required and elective courses within 18 months, a minimum of 60 credit hours, while maintaining a 75 percent or better grade average. Students must also request and fill out an Application for Certificate and submit it to VSU Continuing Education.

New classes are routinely added to elective offerings and some courses may not be offered every semester. Each course within the program is individually priced.

Certificate program instructors are Dave Sundin and Bryan Garris. Sundin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and communication arts and has over 30 years of experience in photojournalism, video and slide production, and wedding and portrait photography. Garris owns Ocean Star Productions, a recording and photography business in Valdosta and graduated from VSU with a Master of Music Performance.

Students do not have to be pursuing the certificate program to enroll in digital photography courses.
