VSU Hosts Second Annual Community Bank Symposium

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University’s Langdale College of Business Administration will partner with the Georgia Bankers Association (GBA) for the second annual South Georgia Community Bank Symposium from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in the student union ballroom.

The symposium includes a day of presentations from leaders in the banking industry and will cover topics such as regulatory issues and trends, accounting standards and how they will impact financial institutions and legislative initiatives and public relations in Georgia banks. The event will also include a presentation from Lee Wetherington, director of strategic insight for ProfitStars, about the future of community banking.

Other presenters include Angie Baker, case manager for FDIC; Steve Powell, president of Steve H. Powell & Company; Joe Brannen, GBA president; Harriet Price, financial institution specialist at Steve H. Powell & Company; Rob Braswell, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance; Allen Stanley, assistant vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank; Ron Mitchell, partner at Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC; Dr. Ellis Heath, assistant professor of economics at VSU and Dr. Cynthia R. Tori, professor of economics at VSU.

With more than 100 attendees at last year's symposium, Dr. Wayne Plumly, dean of the Langdale College of Business Administration, anticipates an equally successful event this year.

“Last year’s symposium was very well attended, which underscores the need for VSU to be the leader in continuing education in our region," Plumly said.

Registration for the event is $149 for the first participant and $119 for all secondary participants.
