VSU Hosts 17th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

VALDOSTA -- The diverse research interests of Valdosta State University students will be represented at the 17th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, in the Bailey Science Center Atrium and Auditorium.

Students will present posters displaying findings for research projects that range from illegal immigration and tools of war to various animal infections. During Thursday's session, college awards will be presented at 7 p.m. and department heads will recognize participating students. Dr. Fred Downing will also present an address titled "Students in the House of the Rising Sun: Some Late Night Reflections."

On Friday, paper sessions begin at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. Best poster awards will be presented during Friday's posters session, which begins at 10:30 a.m.

The annual spring symposium is open with free admission so members of the Valdosta State University and local communities can learn from outstanding undergraduate research.

The Undergraduate Research Council at Valdosta State University seeks to engage students from all disciplines within the college in meaningful, independent and supervised research experiences. The council also provides a forum for faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences to foster undergraduate research in their own disciplines and gain more knowledge of undergraduate research in other fields.
