Summer Camps 2011

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University will hold several camps that will provide students with unlimited opportunities to sharpen their intellectual and physical skills.

VSU invites students of all ages to spend the summer months on campus. See the list below to learn about the wide array of summer study and athletic camp options available.

Academic Camp

What: Computing Adventures @ VSU 2011
Who: Middle school and high school students
When: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., June 13-July 22
Cost: $110-165 (A limited number of scholarships are also available)
Valdosta State University’s Department of Math and Computer Science will host three one-week long computing summer camps to help positively influence students' interest in computer science. Students will receive information that serves as a platform for future exploration in computing.

What: Camp Discovery 2011
Who: Children ages 5 and older
When: Morning/afternoon June 1-July 30
Cost: $55+

Kids will enjoy learning during the Department of Continuing Education's Camp Discovery. The summer day camps provide opportunities for area children to make friends, expand their horizons and achieve personal growth through age-appropriate activities. All camps are designed to be fun for participants, as well as to improve academic, artistic and/or physical skills.
Camps will be available from May 31 through July 30, for children age 5 and older. Most camps are held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Some afternoon camps are also available. Camp fees start at $80 and vary based on the cost of the activities.

Camps include Lego Technic, Hip-Hop Funk, Dance Imagination, Critter Camp and Welcome to Broadway. Kids can also enjoy days of tennis, horsemanship and arts and crafts.

The student Rec Room also offers kids a place to hang out during afternoon hours. From 1-4 p.m. each day, participants can enjoy supervised activities, such as indoor and outdoor games, movies, arts and crafts, and a few special visitors.

What: Swimming lessons
Who: Children ages 3 and older (must be toilet trained)
When: Morning-evening; May 31-July 15
Cost: $48-59

Summer Swimming Lessons from VSU Continuing Education

Continuing Education's semi-private swimming lessons will be conducted in the indoor pool at VSU’s Student Recreation Center on Sustella Avenue. All classes are taught by Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors and empower children to be safe and comfortable in the water for summer activities.

Lessons, which consist of five 45-minute lessons during one week, are open to toilet-trained children ages 3 and older. Class size is limited to 4 students with sessions grouped by “non-swimmers and “swimmers.” Instructors work with each individual at his or her skill level.

Football

What: David Dean Youth football camp

Who: Children ages 5-13

What: Football skills tournament -- 7 on 7 Passing Tournament/Lineman Challenge
When: Saturday, July 16
Who: High school football teams
Cost: $200.00 per team. If your school chooses to have a team participate in both the passing tournament and lineman challenge, the discounted cost will be $375.00.

What: Football All Positions/Team Camp
When: Sunday and Monday, July 17-18
Who: Players in all positions or football teams
Cost: $175 per camper - 10 or more campers discounted to $150 per camper

What: Valdosta State Traveling Mini-Camp
When: July 20 (Richmond Hill Recreation), 22 (Eagles Landing High School) & 23 (Collins Hill High School)
Who: Players in all positions or football teams
Cost: $40 per person

What: The Rising Senior Mini Camp
When: June 9
Who: Student-athletes who will be entering their senior year of high school in fall 2011.
Cost: $25 per person

Basketball

What: Men's Basketball Team Camp
When: Friday and Saturday, June 10-11
Who: High school varsity teams
Option 1: Six game guarantee, $395 per team
Option 2: Four game guarantee, $285 per team
Addition: Stay on campus for $15 per player.

Baseball

Who: Ages 7-12

What: Blazer Baseball School
When: June 6-7 (Session 1) June 8-9 (Session 2)
Who: Ages 7-9, Ages 10-12, Ages 13-18
Cost: $40 per two-day session

What: Blazer Baseball Prospect Mini-Camp

Who: Rising juniors and seniors and 2011 graduates
