VSU Waives Fees for Active Duty Military Students

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University received approval from the Board of Regents to waive institutional, technology, and other student fees for active duty service members. Earlier this year, active duty military personnel who applied for Tuition Assistance were notified that some fees will no longer be covered in accordance with a revised policy adopted by the Department of Defense.

Each semester VSU has approximately 50 active duty students enrolled at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, Moody Air Force Base and the Marine Corps Logistics Base.

“Without this accommodation many of our active duty military students would not be able to continue their education,” said President Patrick J. Schloss. “VSU is proud to provide these fine men and women with financial resources to help them earn a degree. It is fitting that this accommodation is made for individuals who sacrifice to protect the freedoms central to university life. ”

For the past four years, Valdosta State has earned the distinction of a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs magazine. The honor ranks the university among the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and technical schools nationwide.

Valdosta State’s educational presence at military bases in the area will be strengthened through a variety of programs and support services focused on active military and veteran students. Last year, Valdosta State established an office to facilitate degree completion of adults, with particular attention focused on military and veterans.

Note: Fees are waived for active duty military personnel that are receiving Tuition Assistance only.
