Canned Food Drive: Nov. 8-12

VALDOSTA -- Blazer Dining will host a weeklong canned food drive Nov. 8-12 to benefit the Blazer Pantry, Valdosta Food Bank, and Second Harvest of South Georgia -- an organization that provides more than 8 million pounds of food to more than 300 local charities each year.

Although all cans and non-perishable items are appreciated, preferred food items include: beans, soup, fruit, instant formula, tuna, evaporated milk, chili and peanut butter.

Those interested in participating may donate canned and other non-perishable foods to any Campus Dining location, including Sustella and Langdale markets.

A variety of other events -- such as a student organization can challenge -- are also planned to inspire donations throughout the week.

Hearts for Hunger: Nov. 8-12
Purchase and sign a $1 heart of gold at any Blazer Dining location. Each dollar raised will provide six meals at an area food bank.

Six Cans = Free Lunch: Tuesday, Nov. 9, and Friday, Nov. 12
Bring six canned goods into Palms Dining Center between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, and/or Friday, Nov. 12, for a free lunch at the facility.

Community Service: Soup Kitchen: Nov. 10
Blazer Dining will host a volunteer opportunity faculty, staff and students from 11:30 a.m. -- 1 p.m. at Valdosta Soup Kitchen, 601 N. Lee St., on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Those interested should meet at the soup kitchen to donate and serve up food to those in need.

Can Challenge: Thursday, Nov. 11

Student organizations are encouraged to gather cans to compete for the Can Challenge Competition. The group that weighs in with the heaviest donation will win a $250 catering gift certificate. Second place will receive a $100 catering gift certificate. Organizations interested in competing should bring their donations between 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. behind Hopper Dining Center.
