Panel Discussion: Placement of Religious Buildings

 

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State University Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies will host a panel discussion titled “Building Religions and Religious Building: Locating Religious Institutions in Communities” from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, in the University Center Theater.

The evening’s discussion will focus on the controversial placement of various religious buildings, including the proposed Muslim cultural center and mosque in New York City. Dr. Christine James, associate professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies, will moderate the panel, which will include Dr. Stephen Childs, professor emeritus of Anthropology; Dr. John Crowley, associate professor of History; Dr. Jason Kassel, assistant professor of Political Science; Dr. Stoltzfus, professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies; and VSU students Christian Newman and Iye Kargbo.
