The Happening: 2010

VALDOSTA -- For one afternoon each fall, Valdosta State University's front lawn becomes a forum where more than 100 local businesses and organizations meet face to face with VSU students to offer useful knowledge about the university and the community surrounding them.

The Happening 2010, scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, promises to be the event of the semester with more tents, games and freebies than last year's affair -- which was the largest in its 18-year history.

Participation in the thrilling, yet informative, event is free for both vendors and students. No selling is allowed on campus, but businesses often provide free food samples, prizes and promotional giveaways. VSU departments, student groups and other campus organizations will also pass out information and engage students in balloon tosses, basketball throws, miniature golf and many other activities.

Campus groups and local businesses and organizations can register with Student Life until Thursday, August 19. Set-up begins at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event and participants are encouraged to plan for drop-off/pick-up because on-campus parking is limited. All businesses and organizations must check-in at the information tent upon arrival.

Reservation forms for businesses, community groups and campus organizations are available on the Student Life website at http://www.valdosta.edu/stulife/TheHappening.shtml . Call the Office of Student Life at 333-5674 for more information.
