VSU Hosts First Community Bank Symposium
VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University's Langdale College of
Business Administration and the Georgia Bankers Association will
co-host the first South Georgia Community Bank Symposium from 7:30
a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Student Union
ballroom.
The recent passage of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer
Protection Act represents the most aggressive new regulation the
financial industry has experienced since the Great depression era.
The act will have a significant impact on how community banks do
business. Top-level bank administrators are invited to learn more
about these changes and engage experts in discussion about the new
regulatory guidelines and compliance issues.
“These are critical topics for banks as they continue to meet their
mission of serving South Georgia’s families, businesses and
communities,” said Joe Brannen, GBA president and CEO. “We are
excited about partnering with Valdosta State University for this
event.”
Presenters include GBA President Joe Brannen; Kevin Hagler, deputy
commissioner for the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance;
James DeVane Jr., assistant deputy comptroller, Office of the
Comptroller of the Currency; John Henrie, FDIC regional assistant
deputy director; James Vaughn, partner with Mauldin & Jenkins,
LLC; Steve Powell, president, and Harriett Price, financial
institution specialist, both with Steve H. Powell and Company; and
Cynthia Tori, professor of economics at VSU.
Registration is $120 for the first participant and $95 each for
secondary participants. For information, call GBA’s Susie McGehee
at 404-420-2010 or e-mail her at smcgehee@gabankers.com. Find
