Peach State Celebrates 20 Years
VALDOSTA -- Georgia's official musical theatre is celebrating 20
years of professional performances with its 2010 season, featuring
White Christmas, Mulan and The Secret Garden. The three shows will
be performed in a rotating repertoire from June 4 to July 18 in the
Fine Arts Building's Sawyer Theatre, located on the corner of Oak
Street and Brookwood Drive.
White Christmas, based on the popular 1954 movie musical starring
Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, will open the season June 4.
Patrons will cool down during the hot Georgia summer to classic
tunes like "Blue Skies," "Sisters" and the title song, "White
Christmas." The high-energy show received two 2009 Tony Award
nominations for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.
The honor and heroism of Disney's Mulan, which opens June 18, will
captivate young and old during this action-packed stage adaptation
of a legendary story from ancient China. The show, recommended for
audiences age 4 and up, celebrates culture, honor and the human
spirit through a score that includes, “Reflection,” “Honor to Us
All,” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You."
The Secret Garden, based on the beloved 1911 children's novel,
opens June 25. Orphaned character, Mary Lennox, she is sent back to
England to be cared for by her mother's sister's husband, Archibald
Craven, a reclusive widower. Mary finds the key to the secret
garden and a heartwarming tale unfolds.
Season memberships and patronages are available for purchase until
June 4. Individual tickets ($25 for adults/$20 for seniors and
students) will go on sale Tuesday, May 18.
