Elite Choir to Perform in Rotunda

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State Chamber Singers will perform an hourlong holiday concert by candlelight at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, in the grand acoustical stage of West Hall’s rotunda. The elite ensemble of 28 singers will delight audiences with renaissance motets, new compositions and familiar favorites such as “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night.”

Director of Choral Studies Dr. Paul Neal said the Chamber Singers will also present the southern premiere of “Truth From Above,” a new Christmas carol written by Dr. Jim Shrader, chair of the Department of Music.

“This concert has quickly become a South Georgia tradition,” said Neal, who arranged the concert. “We sold out last year, and we expect to do the same last year. The West Hall rotunda is a magnificent place to sing, and the holiday music really helps to get people into the spirit of the season.”

Proceeds from the performance, which costs $10 for adults and $5 for students, will support the Chamber Singers’ tour to Atlanta and Savannah in the spring of 2010. Tickets will not be sold at the door the night of the concert. Call (229) 333-5812 to reserve tickets.
