Student Groups Host Fall Festivals This Weekend
VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University's front lawn will hold fun
for students of all ages. Dress in your most creative costume or
grab a donation of non-perishables and prepare for fun and games as
student organizations host fall festivals on Saturday and Sunday,
Oct. 24-25.
Saturday, Oct. 24
Black Student League Fall Carnival
VSU students can test their pumpkin carving skills, challenge their
friends in games of ring toss or participate in a variety of
carnival-style games geared toward young adults. Bring a donation
of non-perishable food, clothing or office supplies to the Black
Student League (BSL) booth on the front lawn beginning at 7 p.m.
Saturday.
BSL President Loren Bass said the organization's members wanted to
give students something to look forward to, while also helping
others. Inspired by the Spectator's 11.6 Percent; Be Part of the
Fix," the league wanted to go beyond the typical donations to local
shelters and soup kitchens and also collect items for the campus
community, which is operating after strict budget cuts.
E-mail Bass at vsu_bsl@yahoo.com for more
information.
Sunday, Oct. 25
Greek Life Second Annual Children's Fall Festival
Join Zeta Phi Beta and a host of other Greek organizations in their
efforts to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Refreshment
sales will fund the nonprofit and activities, each sponsored by a
student group, are free of charge. Children of all ages are
encouraged to dress for trick-or-treating and prepare for
fun.
Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and kids can showcase
their talents in a hula-hoop contest, a three-legged race, musical
chairs, fishing, sports and more. Chi Omega will transform faces
with painting and the host sorority will capture memories of all
the fun in the photo booth.
Officers from DARE and other law enforcement officials will share
information about fall safety. Kids can tour the fire safety house
and check out a fire truck as well.
E-mail Zeta Phi Beta President Cassandra Murphy at cemurphy@valdosta.edu for more
information.
