VSU's Tanner Named CUPA-HR President

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University’s Classification and Compensation Analyst, Jamie Tanner, was recently named president of the Georgia Chapter of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.

In 2003, Tanner earned a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from VSU. He has worked in Human Resources and Employee Development office at VSU for the past three years, during which time he served as a volunteer for GA-CUPA and was president-elect during the 2008-09 term.

Tanner's one year term began in July. One of his goals is to expand the focus of the organization, which traditionally focused on schools near the Atlanta area, to incorporate more of the southern and middle Georgia institutions.

"CUPA-HR is a highly regarded organization; its services and resources are sought by research institutions, four-year universities and junior colleges alike," Tanner said. "I am so thankful to be a part of just a vibrant and growing group of professionals and look forward to seeing what this new year will bring."

He said he plans to strengthen the association's impact by providing more opportunities to network with fellow colleagues about issues and concerns in order to build skills and abilities by learning pitfalls and problem solving skills from others.

Human resources professionals can learn from each other at the mini-workshop scheduled for Friday, Oct 9, at Macon State College. The panel-style event will focus on current and future HR-related topics in litigation or up for debate in the legislature. Plans for the annual conference will be announced soon.

GA CUPA-HR is a state level chapter affiliated with the National College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. The association is committed to providing affordable, quality, and timely educational programming and training to ensure members remain abreast of the latest human resources issues and topics, including trends, technological innovations, legislation, and other matters which may impact higher education human resources professionals.
