VSU to Offer Doctoral Program at Macon State
VALDOSTA--The University System of Georgia Board of Regents
approved Valdosta State University’s request to offer a Doctor of
Education at the campus of Macon State College.
Beginning in August, VSU will offer its existing Doctor of
Education with a major in leadership on the campus of Macon State
College. The program was developed based on a survey of current
educators and increased interest from potential students in the
Macon area.
“This provides an opportunity for Valdosta State to further assist
the public education system in Georgia and prepare educational
leaders,” said Dr. Phil Gunter, dean of the Dewar College of
Education at Valdosta State University. “This program will also
help increase the number of educators needed at Georgia’s two-year
and four-year colleges.”
The Leadership doctoral degree program is designed for P-12
educators, college or university personnel, or leaders in other
organizations. The program does not automatically result in P-12
leadership certification. This program has the potential to impact
the region by developing a group of professionals who will
positively influence and transform the organizations in which they
serve.
“The critical need for teachers is well-known, but the need for
education leaders also is vital,” said Dr. Barbara Frizzell, vice
president for Academic Affairs at Macon State College. “The
doctoral program to be offered on our campus by a sister
institution not only enriches our own academic environment but also
establishes a conduit to increase the education leadership talent
pool for Central Georgia and beyond.”
