Traveling Art Exhibition Journeys to VSU

VALDOSTA - A traveling art exhibition featuring some of the world’s most impressive artistic expressions will be on display from February 16 to March 6 at Valdosta State University’s Fine Arts Gallery, located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building.

VSU invites the public to a reception from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, to celebrate the opening of The Society of Illustrators’ 2008-2009 Traveling Exhibition - a tour of 40 original works selected from the society’s 50th Annual Exhibition. The tour’s featured artists include Brad Holland, Sterling Hundley, Mike Benny, Jody Hewgill, Yuko Shimizu and Anita Kunz.

The exhibition pieces represent the best of six artistic categories: Sequential, a multiple-image project; Editorial, those pieces published in magazines, newspapers, online magazines and journals; Book, illustrations commissioned for books; Advertising, promotional images on items ranging from CD covers to packaging illustrations; Institutional, work appearing on corporate merchandise; and Uncommissioned, unpublished work including portfolio samples and sourcebook advertisements.

Founded in 1901, the Society of Illustrators strives to promote the appreciation of art, its history and evolving nature. The not-for-profit group advances artistic discussion through exhibitions, lectures and other educational experiences.
