VSU Hosts Heart-Healthy Breakfast
VALDOSTA - In support of American Heart Month, Valdosta State
University Campus Wellness and the local American Heart Association
are hosting a Take Heart Celebration starting at 8 a.m. Friday,
February 20, in the University Center Magnolia Room.
Participants will receive a V-State sports bag filled with goodies
as they check-in from 8-8:30 a.m., then enjoy a heart-healthy
breakfast for $2 or a meal swipe and healthy cooking
demonstrations. Starting at about 8:45 a.m., guest speakers -
including Pam Powell, a cardiac nurse at South Georgia Medical
Center - will share personal stories and the latest research about
women's heart health. Organizers will pass out door prizes,
including a Curves membership and spa packages, during the event.
People interested in attending the Take Heart Celebration should
register by Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Campus Wellness Web site,
www.valdosta.edu/finadmin/wellness/.
VSU has sponsored a number of events throughout February as part of
the "Go Red for Women" campaign, a national movement founded by the
American Heart Association to fight back against the No. 1 killer
of American women. During the week of February 3, Campus Dining
offered low-fat and low-sodium options at Palms Dining Facility.
VSU faculty, staff and students raised money and awareness by
participating in the American Heart Association's Wear Red day on
Friday, February 6.
