Earth-Friendly Sodexo Offers Reusable Mug and Bird Friendly Coffee

VALDOSTA - Sodexo Dining Services recently launched two new programs, designed to make its services even more earth friendly.

VSU community members can purchase the new Dining Services "Recycle Mug" for $5.99. The 24-ounce mug can be refilled for only $.79, saving customers money and decreasing the amount of trash on campus created by disposable cups. To encourage participation, Dining Services will provide the first fountain drink fill-up for free. Mugs and refills can be purchased at Salsa Rico, Sky Ranch Grill, Subconnection and Sustella Market; refills can also be purchased at Quiznos and Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Sodexo owned Jazzman's is featuring a new Noteworthy Coffee that is Bird Friendly certified. Imported from Ethiopia, Africa, the product is the first-ever African coffee that carries the certification. Farmers forego the conventional practice of clearing land to organically grow the product under a canopy of trees. This provides homes for birds and natural fertilizer for crops, creating a product with rich, complex flavor that is double certified for sustainability. Bird friendly coffee is one of many sold at Jazzman's that are sourced from farming cooperatives and communities around the world.

These new initiatives are part of Sodexo's ongoing commitment to earth friendly practices. Visit http://services.valdosta.edu/dining/recycle.aspx for more information about Sodexo's sustainability initiatives.
