Children's Advocacy Center Names Room After Kappa Delta
VALDOSTA - The local Gamma Mu chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority
has chosen the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County, Inc.
as the beneficiary for its annual Shamrock Flag Football Tournament
for the last two years, and the center recently recognized the KD
sisters during a room naming ceremony held April 30.
The football tournament, hosted at Valdosta State University each
year, is part of the national Shamrock Project, for which Kappa
Delta chapters across the country host fundraising events to
benefit efforts to prevent child abuse. The local group raised more
than $15,000 for the Children’s Advocacy Center.
In appreciation of the philanthropic efforts of this organization,
the Children’s Advocacy Center named a room for the Gamma Mu
chapter of Kappa Delta. Members of the sorority and center, along
with local elected officials, celebrated the official opening of
The Kappa Delta Sorority Forensic Observation Room.
“Our appreciation for what Kappa Delta has done for our
organization is beyond words,” said Brenda Hodges Johnson, CAC
Executive Director. “We are extremely lucky to have such a strong
and caring group of young ladies in our community. Our appreciation
is endless.”
According to a press release from the center, the Forensic
Observation Room is used by the CAC’s Multi-Disciplinary Team to
observe the forensic interviews as they are being conducted. The
Multi-Disciplinary Team includes the Office of the District
Attorney, Valdosta Police Department, and Lowndes County Sheriff’s
Office. Through the recording equipment set up in the Forensic
Observation and Forensic Interview Room, the child does not have to
relive the interview in court.
