New Study Abroad Options in Italy, Japan and Peru
VALDOSTA - Beginning this summer, the Center for International
Programs at Valdosta State University will offer three new study
abroad experiences in Italy, Japan and Peru for those looking to
travel and learn from different cultures.
Students in Florence, Italy can feast on authentic cuisine and take
in historic sights, while learning about art. In Japan, students
will truly experience Japanese culture as they live with families,
learn the language and pursue knowledge of Japanese film. The new
Peru program will concentrate on learning intensive Spanish along
with traveling and practicing the traditions and customs of the
country. As with all summer abroad programs, the three new options
are open to students in good academic standing and include six-hour
courses with opportunities to travel.
“We try to bring new opportunities to students to go out and
experience with different culture and language,” said David
Starling, coordinator for study abroad programs and assistant
director for International Programs.
Every year, the Center of International Programs looks for new
study abroad experiences and opportunities to bring to students.
Starling said one of the first new trips for 2009 will be to
Waterford, Ireland, where the well-known crystal is produced. His
team in International Programs is also considering a program in
Nice, France.
Although summer break is convenient for students who want to
travel, the Center for International Programs also offers study
abroad as well as exchange options in the Czech Republic, Chile,
Belize, China, Spain and many other locations. Exchange programs
are geared toward students, who are willing to study in a different
country with a collaborative university in the students respective
major for a full semester.
