VSU Faculty, Staff 'Locked Up' for MDA

VALDOSTA - More than 22 members of the VSU community were arrested and jailed for an hour at the “Big House” on Nov. 7 as part of the Valdosta Lock-Up, a fundraising effort for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Donations have been tallied, and VSU faculty and staff contributed close to $7,000 during the event.

Volunteers from the Valdosta Fire Department, Lowndes County Sheriff Department and other volunteers and ambassadors brought the “jailbirds” to the slammer, fingerprinted them and took mug shots - all for committing the ultimate crime of generosity. Funds raised from people posting bail will be used to purchase wheelchairs, provide clinic visits and support group sessions and send afflicted children to camp. VSU is proud to have had so many participants, who certainly made a difference in the Valdosta-Lowndes County community.
