VSU Holds Benefits and Wellness Fair, Lunch-N-Learn

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University employees are invited to a Benefits and Wellness Fair from 2- 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the University Center’s Magnolia and Cypress rooms, and employees and students can reserve a spot at a special Lunch-N-Learn from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the Palms faculty/staff dining room.

The Benefits and Wellness Fair will give employees an opportunity to review benefit packages in preparation for open enrollment, which begins Monday, Oct. 8. Those attending can meet with representatives from vendors like Aflac, Weight Watchers, Wilson Eye Center, the YMCA and more. Campus Wellness will provide important health information, screenings and health risk appraisals. Employees may also enjoy free massages and Tai Chi demonstrations.

Hosted by the wellness committee, the Lunch-N-Learn will feature special speaker Todd Smoot, who will cover topics such as developing health and fitness plans and safe ways to get active. Smooth is the owner of Get Active, a fitness clothing store, and a fitness columnist for the Valdosta Daily Times. An avid runner and fitness specialist, he is very involved in planning personal and community activities that promote health and wellness.

The menu will feature garlic salmon, orzo delicioso, grilled asparagus, palms salad and almond cocoa angel cake. Cost to attend is $6.95, which can be paid for with a Dining Services meal plan.
