World Renowned Journalist to speak at VSU

Valdosta State University will be the site for a public lecture with award winning international journalist Dr. Robert Fisk on Wednesday, March 21, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Room 1011. Dr. Fisk will lecture on the “Turmoil in the Middle East: Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.”

Dr. Fisk has worked as the Middle Eastern correspondent for The Independent (United Kingdom) since 1988, and has followed conflicts, such as the Lebanese Civil War, the Iran-Iraq War, and the Persian Gulf War. Also, Fisk has won the “International Journalist of the Year” award seven times from the British Press.

“ I hope they [viewers] will see the Middle East from another perspective, that of a first class, world renowned journalist living in Lebanon.” Dr. Susan Wehling, associate professor of Modern and Classical Languages, said. “As Washington debates further war in Iran it is vital to listen to the view from the other side.”

Sponsors for this event include: the department of Modern and Classical Languages; the department of Political Science; the department of History; the department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice; the department of English; the department of Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences, the Dean’s Office of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Center for International Programs, the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, and Christ the King Episcopal Church of Valdosta.
