VSU's Division of Social Work to hold Career Day

Valdosta State University’s division of Social work will sponsor a Social Work Career Day on Friday, February 9 in the University Center. The career day will begin at 9 a.m. with formal presentations on social work as a career, which includes information about the master’s of Social Work program and coursework. At noon students, faculty, field instructors, and guests have the opportunity to attend a networking luncheon with representatives from over 30 social service agencies in the surrounding area. The career day will resume at 1 p.m. with the agency representatives setting up tables and displays promoting their organizations; also, these representatives will answer questions about placement opportunities and careers in social work. The career day will come to an end at 3 p.m.

“A major purpose of Career Day is to educate undergraduate students about the significant option of a career in the field of social work,” Dr. Martha Giddings, director of the division of Social Work, said. “With the projected growth and changing demographics that will occur in Georgia over the next decade, the demand for master’s level social workers is predicted to increase, and jobs will be available.”

Advance registration is requested for the morning session and a $10 fee is required to attend the luncheon; to register call Regina Russell at (229) 249-4864.
